Tonight Elizabeth and I went to movie night at church (ladies only) and we watched "Return to Me". I had remembered how much that movie made me cry, but I forgot how much it made me laugh. My mom's breast cancer has not spread anywhere else. Her oncologist gives her a 90% chance of surviving this. She starts chemo on Monday.

You may think we mommies are sitting here spewing drivel about sick kids and soccer practice. You may think we're too wrapped up in tooth fairy visits and diaper rashes to take a worthy part in society. However, you are wrong. The white liberal intellectuals have a higher than average abortion rate, while there are many conservative Christian mommies out there having more than 1.8 children (hey... Even more than four... Taking a cue from Zelie I've decided to rename my kids after the five daughters in one of my favorite literary works "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. Henceforth my five daughters shall be known as Jane, Elizabeth "Lizzy", Mary, Catherine "Kitty", and Lydia. It will be a bit confusing for me at first, as our Elisabeth will not be Elizabeth. ;o) But it will be fun. I've always had a hard time giving my youngest three clever names, and now this will solve the problem. I will change their names in the side bar later.

My nuclear stress test was postponed. Last Monday it was postponed because the tech was sick... then I had to reschedule again because my kids were sick... and yesterday they sent me home to have a pregnancy test done at my doctor's office first, because they have to be 100% sure I'm not pg before injecting the radio-active stuff... Steadfast was home all of two days in the past month, so I was pretty sure I wasn't pg, but now I'm really sure and I'm rescheduled for Thursday morning with my litte "not pg" note from my doctor in my fat little hand. ;o) I thought it was silly, since AF is/was due today and I really feel crampy. I'm thinking a test was unnecessary and just waiting a day or two would prove it... My mom has her first appointment with her oncologist this morning, so I'm waiting to hear how she's doing....

I read voraciously and speak six languages, but I'm not an elegant speaker, cannot wane (or wax) poetic, and all of the other suggested occupations don't quite fit either. My parents always said I'd make a good lawyer... and I did want to be a translator at the UN once. But I'm glad I didn't go there. I could just see myself today... mis-speaking on purpose... My mom does have breast cancer. She is scheduling an appointment with an oncologist and they will run tests to see how far it has spread, and they will start her on chemo right away. I just can't stop crying. Steadfast is still in Georgia, my kids are still sick, I still have to have my MRI and nuclear stress test done, we still have to put our house on the market... how can life keep going on like normal? One thing that scares me, is that no one in my mom's family has ever had cancer, so I have been kind of flippant about my own risks. I had a breast tumor a few years ago, and it was benign, and I guess I just thought, that's that. Now it means that my sisters and I have a higher risk for breast cancer... because our mom does. Go get your mammograms ladies. Why not? So your cups are turned into saucers for a few minutes. They'll get over it. It's so much better to face things in the face early, and beat them, then to wait too long and let them get a grip o

He'll be home on Thursday night (late) and hopefully he will get to be home a whole week before he has to go back to Georgia!! Hopefully while he's home I can get my nuclear stress test done on my heart (re-scheduled for the third time to occur on Valentine's Day)... My MRI is scheduled for tomorrow, but if the kids are still sick I will have to reschedule that too. My mom is at the doctor right now getting her biopsy results. Please pray!

A friend lost her husband suddenly last week (aneurysm). Steadfast was going to be in Georgia one week, home one week, in GA one week, but after a couple of days he found out it was four weeks straight in Georgia and he won't be back until February 10th. He did get 48 hours home this weekend. So I'm going through all the following alone.... My new van broke down on my way to pick up my asthma meds, my cell phone died, and no cops came along to help, and no one stopped to help in hours of rush hour traffic and me with five scared kids in the car ... it turned out no cops came by because there was an accident a block away (middle of nowhere, so the block was 1/2 mile) and I found out the accident involved the friend who lost her husband. She is in the hospital with her leg broken in three places, and she had to miss her husband's funeral. My mom had an appointment this morning to find out if the lump in her breast is cancerous. The appointment was 5 hours ago, and I
