The name polls are finally updated with new names. ;) Please post comments and opinions here.

Love this article...

The Contempt Shown to Parents of Large Families by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach (World Net Daily) An excerpt: By just looking at my children, I become more innocent. By loving them, I become more noble. By spending my money on them rather than myself, I find transcendence. And by being a father and liberating all of the love in my heart, my spirit soars free. I work hard to support a large family and I give up no pleasures in doing so because my children are my foremost pleasure. - Rabbi Boteach

While I wait out the first trimester nausea....

I will point y'all toward something beautiful to read (in my humble opinion): Perfection In a day or two I will change the name polls with some fresh names to vote on. ;)

Spot to comment on name polls

If you would like to comment on my name polls in the right-hand column, you may do so here. ;) I will be changing the polls in a few weeks. The poll software only allows 10 choices each time, and I have 40+ names I'd like to know opinions on. ;)

Just a quick little announcement...

A Mother's Rule of Life

In comments on an earlier post Amy asked what I thought of this book by Holly Pierlot. I've decided I'm going to blog about it bit by bit. One may wonder what a Protestant is doing reading a Catholic publication. ;) Mrs Pierlot grew up in a Catholic home... Went astray for a bit... Had a "born again" experience and started attending Protestant churches where she felt people understood her experience more... Then, at her mother's pleas she started attending Mass again... And found Jesus was there, too, and so she returned to her Catholic roots. I think Mrs Pierlot is well positioned to speak to the heart of all Christian women, be they Catholic or Protestant... And touch that heart profoundly. I've always found Catholicism to be a comforting religion. Growing up my best friend was Catholic... We had fun comparing our Bibles and seeing which books hers had that mine didn't. I loved how her fiery Mexican grandmother, who lived with them and spoke only...

Jane - born in Holland, land of the tulips. Jane is nearly sixteen (gasp) so I took her to take the exam for her drivers permit yesterday. She passed, missing only two questions. To celebrate we went to lunch at O'Charleys... one of her favorite restaurants and amazingly inexpensive when you don't have the entire crew along. ;) I love watching her grow into a young lady, and I love spending time with her. All you moms of only littles, longing for grown-up conversation in your day-to-day lives... hang in there... almost far too quickly they're old enough to engage in charming, witty and intelligent conversation. It makes for a pleasant ladies day out.

"How can it be a large career to tell other people's children about the Rule of Three, and a small career to tell one's own children about the universe? How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, and narrow to be everything to someone?" - from What's Wrong With the World? by G. K. Chesterton

"How sweet all at once it was for me to be rid of those fruitless joys which I had once feared to lose . . ! You drove them from me, You who are the true, the sovereign joy. You drove them from me and took their place, You who are sweeter than all pleasure, ... You who outshine all light, yet are hidden deeper than any secret in our hearts, You who surpass all honor, though not in the eyes of men who see all honor in themselves... O Lord my God, my Light, my Wealth, and my Salvation." -St. Augustine, The Confessions, Chapter 9

Church signs revisited

A couple of weeks ago I drove to my dentist in The City and I saw a sign on a church that said: If your Bible is in good shape, chances are you're not. Yesterday while driving the same route for the same purpose, I saw a sign on a church a little further down the road that said: If your Bible is worn out, chances are, you're in good shape. ;) (And yes, the winky smiley was there too!)

5 Weird Things About Me

I was tagged by Paula at full of life . Five weird habits of yourself: “The first player of this game starts with the topic ‘five weird habits of yourself,’ and people who get tagged need to write an entry about their five weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next five people to be tagged and link to their web journals. Don’t forget to leave a comment in their blog or journal that says ‘You are tagged’ (assuming they take comments) and tell them to read yours.” 1. I often read 4-5 books at a time, but usually on the same topics or in the same genre. 2. I hate ketchup and I hate eggs... But I love the two together. 3. I can only eat meat if it's fruity. I love Indian curries with fruit in them. I really don't care for meat, unless it's cooked with fruit... I love pineapple chicken... And this I'll serve with Orzo with cranberries and apples... And baby spinach salad with raspberry vinaigrette. I t...
I don't blog much lately... busy with life and all. Paula, I am working on that meme. :) But there is a prayer burden on my heart tonight, and I know some of my favorite prayer warriors read this blog even when I'm going through a dry spell... so I thought I'd put this prayer request up. Please pray for my friend Anne and her family. The doctors have said her dad has just days left on this earth. Please pray that Anne will be able to get to see her dad, and please lift up her entire family and her dad... that they will have strength, peace and comfort through this time and beyond.

Calling all readers who love to do Women's Bible Studies

Imagine you were in a church, possibly grew up in it, that never did a woman's Bible study before. Which of these studies below do you think would be a good start? I'm thinking of doing Partow's 90-day thing on my own, so I'm leaning towards the bottom three books for the study group. Any opinions out there?

One of the most elusive qualities in our world today is peace. We are hurried, pressured and stressed. Relationships have broken down. We have fears, anxieties and unanswered questions. Lynn Stanley has provided a thoughtful look at the reasons for our lack of peace and the answers found in God's Word. Jesus promised us peace. Using commentary, Scripture - KJV and NIV included - and practical application questions separated into 5 days, this study shows how to appropriate His peace and live it out in our daily experience.
